Roll out the Red Carpet just in time for the Oscars!
In honor of the 88th Academy Awards ceremony, I’ve selected some of our most popular red rugs for your viewing pleasure. Whether it’s a traditionally-patterned Persian or a deep, thick shag, Home Furniture has all latest styles in every shade of red. More importantly, you can be the star in your own show. Red carpets or red rugs were first mentioned in history in the Greek story of Agamemnon in 458 B.C. Upon triumphantly returning from his victory in Troy, his wife Cyltemnestra invites him to walk upon a crimson carpet. He hesitates for it would show too much pride because only gods could walk upon red. By the 19th century, rolling out a red carpet came to be used for royalty, important state dignitaries, or the wealthy. In 1920 the New York Central railroad used red carpets for the passengers of the 20th Century Limited. Interestingly, the red carpet wasn’t used at the Academy Awards until 1961.
