Ronald Zachery
Picker - Distribution Center - Lafayette, LA

Ronald Zachery began his career with Home Furniture Plus Bedding in 1996 at our Surrey Street location in Lafayette, LA. Ronald fulfilled many duties such as prepping, working the showroom, and being a delivery helper. Afterward, Ronald worked at our Central Warehouse with two other team members facilitating the receiving of goods, warehousing, and transfers. Ronald has been operating as a picker at our Distribution Center in Lafayette, LA since its opening in 2006.

“I was one of the very first to move into the DC! I’ve done just about everything except sitting at the back of a desk!” says Ronald.

Prior to joining our team, Ronald served in the United States Army for 3 years and worked in the restaurant business honing his skills to eventually become a certified chef.

Carleen Melancon, Co-Distribution Center Manager adds:
“Ronald Zachery, known as (Zack), began his career in 1996 at our Surrey Street store working load-outs, prepping furniture, working the showroom, and going on deliveries as a helper. He worked at Surrey until 2004 and then moved to the Central Warehouse offloading receiving trucks and loading all of the intercompany trucks.

In 2006, Ronald then moved into the Home Furniture Distribution Center, tagging and scanning in receiving, and then became an order picker. Ronald comes in at 4:00 am each morning and starts picking intercompany orders and then picks the orders for delivery. Once receiving starts up, he also helps in putting away merchandise that's being offloaded in receiving.

Ronald (Zack) is very dependable and takes a lot of pride in what he does. He has a great attitude and is respected by his fellow employees. Ronald will be celebrating his 70th birthday on March 24! Happy Birthday, Zack!”

What do you like best about your job?

When asked what he likes most about his job Ronald stated,
“The atmosphere here is great! You get breaks. You get vacations. There are lots of good things that happen at Home Furniture!”

When Zack is not at work:

When not at work Ronald says, “I like to relax and cook! I’m currently teaching my 12- year-old granddaughter how to cook as well! I also like to play a little basketball and go to the casino. Man, it’s amazing how many friends and family I see there!”

The ONE thing most co-workers may not know:

“That I have been a chef. Not just a cook, but a real chef! I graduated from culinary school in the ’80s and have certification papers! I even make my own bar-b-que sauce! Plus, my wife is a chef, too! One thing I always remembered: Don’t ever show any wanna-be-chef all that you know!” says Ronald.

Advice for anyone wishing to join our Home Furniture Team:

When asked what advice he would give anyone wishing to join the Home Furniture team Ronald replied, Pay attention. Don’t try to overdo it when handling furniture. Handle the furniture as if it were your own. Handle it with care, because that’s gonna end up in our customer’s homes.”

Ronald goes on to say, “I might be slow, but I’m accurate!”

Born in Lafayette, LA and raised right down the road in Port Barre, Ronald resides in Carencro with his wife, Lisa, and their grandchildren.

“We are so very proud of all of our five grandkids for being on the honor roll!” Ronald adds.
