I’m seeing a lot of blue and white these days. Is this a big trend right now?
Blue is a color that never goes out of style. It is by far the most preferred color around the world, in every country, and by every demographic. For several years we’ve seen a push toward aqua and turquoise hues, but “cleaner” or purer blues are making their way into fashion and decor. Serenity, one of Pantone’s Colors of the Year, is a lighter blue without any of the green undertones that have been popular recently. Navy is making a dramatic resurgence, and it is being paired with white or cream – a very classic combination. Since cream and gray upholstery is taking hold of the furniture industry, a very natural complement to them is blue and white. I’ve been adding more blue and white throughout my Home Furniture stores for the last year or so with selections of both contemporary and traditional ceramics, great new rugs, and art in the latest styles.
A room doesn’t have to be full of porcelain. This lovely dining room has a lot of different visual delights punctuated by two outstanding blue and white jars.

Notice how nice the blue and white look against the deeper brown walls and floor. The room is still very neutral without being stark white or beige.

I regularly read the Enchanted Home’s blog by Tina. She is a great lover and purveyor of blue and white porcelain, and all of her projects include at least a smattering of the pieces. She even has a page entitled, “56 reasons why i love blue and white jars!”

A very neutral and very formal backdrop highlights the blue and white porcelains. This showcases each individual piece and shows its pattern to its best advantage.

I love the refined, delicate blue patterns mixed with the bold geometric pattern on the floor and the contemporary feel of the zebra rug. If you don’t have a large collection of blue and white, try displaying it en masse where it has more impact.

Ralph Lauren is known for his All-American fashion, but did you know how much he loves blue and white? His Le Grand Hotel home collection sports a myriad of traditional Chinese and English patterns in cream, white, and blue.

Blue and white porcelains don’t have to be so serious. In this Miami home, they are tucked in and complement a bright, fun, contemporary interior scheme.
One of the easiest ways to add blue and white to your room is a great rug. Over the last six months, we’ve had more and more requests for blue rugs from lighter shades to deep navy, and several have become our best sellers. Many of the most popular choices incorporate several shades of blue as well as gray and sometimes yellow.
Add blue pillows to your neutral upholstery! Mix them with other colors for a bolder look or to add versatility.
Home Furniture has it’s own collection of blue and white porcelain pieces from makers such as IMAX, The Import Collection, A&B Home, and many others. You can choose from traditional floral motifs, solid textural wares, or classic patterns, or you can put together your own unique mix.
With these art selections, I think you can really see the many moods that blue can take on. Of course, anything with water, either inland or coastal, is a natural for blue decor. The very popular peacock theme can incorporate the greens and aquas along with the blue, but this print stresses more regal blue. Blueprint art is a huge trend. Maps, architecture, marine animals, flowers, toys and many other images are most popular.
You will find these great blue and white selections and all your home decorating and furnishing needs at Home Furniture where we’re saving you more on the looks you love.
