How To Decorate Your Child’s Room
How To Decorate Your Child’s Room

Your child’s bedroom is not just a place to sleep. To your child, it’s a magical world where their imaginations can take flight. The way your child’s room is decorated can play a big part in their comfort as well as their playtime. Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana is here with some expert tips on how to design and organize a playful, creative kid's room.

Staying Organized
To help your little ones stay organized, keep things at their height. Closet storage, benches and coat racks will all be used more often if kids can get to them easily. Try adding a few bins to conceal their toys and other items.

Crafting Areas
Children have a creative streak that requires nurturing. Consider bright, useful furniture that allows them to express themselves. A small table with chairs is perfect for crafts or even tea parties with friends!

Room to Spare
If your little ones have been begging for more floor space, bunkbeds are the perfect solution. If bunkbeds don’t seem to be your style, trundle beds are an exceptional space-saver and perfect for impromptu sleepovers!

Lighting
Be sure to include multiple kinds of lighting in a kid's room. Overall lighting is a necessity but so is a reading light. When it’s time to wake up or time to hit the hay, lighting plays an important part!

How to Choose a Mattress
How to Choose a Mattress

Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to maintain and improve your health. When you settle in at night, the mattress you’re sleeping on is a huge factor in your ability to sleep well. It’s important that you don’t overlook the importance of your mattress and choose one that provides the comfort and support you need. A new mattress can be a sizable investment, but taking this step can unlock your ability to sleep better. Allow Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana to tell you how to choose a mattress.

Different Mattress Types
When choosing a new mattress, you’ll need to determine the type of mattress that will provide you with the best night’s sleep. There are five different types of mattresses: foam, innerspring, hybrid, latex, or airbed. Knowing the basics about each of these types can serve as a foundation upon which you can continue your search for the best mattress.

Foam: Foam mattresses are made entirely of foam with no coils. They provide above-average contouring to the body, pressure relief, and motion isolation, making them a good fit for side sleepers and couples.

Innerspring: An innerspring mattress has a coil-based support system and few other layers. While the coils offer some support, innersprings often lack in pressure relief.

Hybrid: Hybrids have two central elements: an innerspring support core and a substantial foam comfort system. The comfort layers can include foam or latex, and sometimes will even include a shorter layer of coils (called micro-coils).

Latex: When all of the layers of a mattress are made with latex rubber, some call it an all-latex or true-latex mattress. These offer top-notch bounce and durability with moderate contouring.

Airbed: Airbeds are built with an air chamber as their support core. A pump — controlled by a smartphone or remote — is built into the mattress to add or remove air with the push of a button, giving sleepers the utmost in firmness flexibility.

Different Mattress Sizes
Of course, size matters when it comes to your new mattress. The most common mattress sizes are king, queen, full, twin, and twin XL. Choosing your mattress size is dependent on the size of your room and exactly how much room you want to stretch out! Home Furniture Plus Bedding has a wide range of sizes to choose from, and you’re sure to find one that fits your needs.

Refresh Tip Number One: Make Simple Changes
A little change can go a long way! If you’re not ready for a major renovation project, you can always make quick and easy updates to your home. Something as simple as changing out the throw pillows on your couch to light and breezy fabrics and vibrant colors can completely change your perspective.

Refresh Tip Number Two: Add Bright Pops of Color

Refresh Tip Number Three: Dress Up Your Table
If you’re looking for a new place to entertain, consider replacing your current dining room table with something new. Changing out your plates, dinnerware, tablecloths, and napkins can dress up your dining room table as well. Add a bouquet of fresh flowers and you’ll be smiling each time you sit down to dinner!

Refresh Tip Number Four: Let the Light In
Pull back the curtains, open up the shades, and let the natural light shine into your home. It's an instant mood booster for your home and probably one of the simplest things you can do to brighten up any space!

How to Coronavirus-Proof Your Home
How to Coronavirus-Proof Your Home

Life under the coronavirus means staying home as much as possible – but it is inevitable that you’ll have to make that eventual trip to the grocery store or pharmacy. Home Furniture Plus Bedding is here with some helpful tips and tricks for East Texas and Louisiana communities to make sure you don’t bring the virus back home with you.

While we’re here to help, you should always follow the orders of your physician, local, state, and the federal government.

Make A Plan and Stick To It

● Designate one member of your household to run errands. This will limit the number of people entering stores as well as leaving your house.

● Set up a sanitizing station. This should be an area outside of your home where you can disinfect your packages.

While You’re Out

● Practice social distancing – do not come within six feet of others.

● If possible, wipe down the handles of shopping carts and baskets.

● Wear gloves and a mask to cover your nose and mouth. If you do not have gloves or a mask, wash and sanitize your hands frequently and avoid touching your face.

● Do not touch anything you do not intend on buying.

When You Return Home

● Take off your shoes and put them in a designated area before you walk through your house.

● Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 30 seconds. Pick a song you love and sing the chorus twice in your head – that should do the trick!

● Disinfect takeout boxes and packaged foods at your sanitizing station.

● Thoroughly wash produce before placing it in your kitchen or fridge.

Home Furniture Encourages You to Take Precautions and Flatten The Curve

If you follow these tips, stay at home as often as possible, and follow the guidelines set by the government, you will do your part to help flatten the curve. We’ll get through this together!

What Size Mattress Should I Buy?
What Size Mattress Should I Buy?

Sleepy mattress shoppers throughout East Texas and Louisiana will be thrilled to learn that our mattress center carries five different mattress sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, and king. It’s important to choose a mattress that is the correct size, or your quality of sleep will be severely affected. A mattress needs to accommodate all potential sleepers — kids, pets, you — while allowing you space to move around your bed comfortably.

We’ve put together some important tips that are sure to help you find the mattress size that is perfect for your lifestyle.

What Size is the California King?

72” (W) x 84” (L)

The “California King Mattress” is approximately 72 inches wide by 84 inches long – 4 inches narrower and 4 inches longer than a regular king.

What Size is the King?

76” (W) x 80” (L)

The king size mattress dimensions are about 18 inches wider than a queen. This is the perfect mattress for couples searching for maximum personal sleeping space. It’s also perfect for the little ones to jump into on early Sunday mornings – even pets!

What Size is the Queen?

60” (W) x 80” (L)

Queen size mattress dimensions are 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer than a full-size mattress. Queen size mattresses are today’s most popular mattress size – perfect for couples or singles who just want a little extra space.

What Size is the Full?

54” (W) x 75” (L)

full size mattress is 53 inches wide, which is just 15 inches wider than a twin size or single. A full-size bed is best for a single sleeper, and only if the person is under 5 feet 5 inches tall. Your teenager may grow out of this bed soon enough and, unfortunately, become even grumpier when they have to get up for school.

What Size is the Twin?

39” (W) x 75” (L)

twin mattress is the smallest possible mattress size, other than a crib-sized mattress. Both twin and full sizes are approximately 75 inches long, which may be too short for some adults.

What Size is the Twin XL?

39” (W) x 80” (L)

twin XL might be a good alternative for those living in tight spaces. The XL offers several inches in length but remains around 38 inches in width. The XL twin is a popular choice in college dormitories.

The dark weathered brown top is great for hiding spills while the ocean-white table legs and chairs brighten up the overall aesthetic. 3 Ways Your Home Changes Your Life for Better or Worse
3 Ways Your Home Changes Your Life for Better or Worse

It may surprise you to know that what you surround yourself with every day can have a dramatic impact on your well-being. The mood you create through the elements that surround you will affect how you feel in each room of your home on a daily basis.

Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana is here with just a few of the ways your environment can affect you on a daily basis.

 1. The Mood in Your Home
Your surroundings have the power to dramatically influence your mood. This can apply to color, décor, tidiness, and warm vs. cool elements in the room. Much like the way that the “winter blues” or seasonal depression moves in with the cold, dark, and often unwelcoming environment outdoors, the same emotions can occur indoors when the environment isn’t well suited to you.

Pay attention to how certain colors make you feel, which ones provide negative emotions, and which ones make you feel calm, happy, and at ease. You can adjust accordingly and create a space more suited to your needs.

2. Inspiration and Motivation
If your bedroom makes you feel down, because if it’s cramped or too empty, you may be more likely to sleep longer and struggle to get out of bed and start your day. If the color yellow makes you feel anxious and you spend much of your morning in your yellow dining room, you may struggle to keep a clear mind and focus on the tasks at hand – whether at home or at work.

Pay attention to factors in your environment that might be altering your motivation and drive, and work to solve those issues to create a better home environment that makes you feel happier and more energized.

3. Interaction
Your dining room and living room are likely to be the spaces where this area of impact is most prevalent. An area that is comfortable, inviting, and pleasing to the eye will likely positively affect the mood of family members and guests. Choosing dining room furniture that ultimately facilitates conversation and interaction will bring a light mood to your home!

East Texas and Louisiana Furniture Shoppers Elevate Their Moods

Everyone has different triggers when it comes to stress; your environment affects you in ways you may not even realize. Little things like a cluttered hallway or a room that could use a few pops of vibrant color can be areas that when improved will improve your attitude each day. What Makes Traditional Style Furniture, Traditional?
What Makes Traditional Style Furniture, Traditional?

It’s likely you’ve walked into a furniture store and have been asked about the style of the furniture in your home or the style you’d like to implement. Modern? Rustic? Farmhouse? One of the most classic styles that will remain relevant for years to come is traditional style furniture. Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana is here to dive into some of the elements that make furniture more on the traditional than modern.

Wood Accents
Most traditional pieces have dark, wooden elements associated with them. You are likely to find vertical, classic lines in the architecture of the pieces that are not distracting. Some wooden elements might even contain some ornate carvings that add and don’t take away from the overall style of the piece.

Neutral Colors
The color palette you’ll find in traditional furniture is usually understated. You’ll find most colors in a mid-range of tones with either very dark or very light colors acting as accents. If you want to implement traditional style in your home, you’ll want to steer clear from neon, bright patterns, or jarring combinations.

Accent Pieces
The accent pieces you find in a traditionally styled home do not draw lots of attention to themselves. They are meant to bring the whole room together and provide a homey and calm feeling. You might see this in the forms of lamp pairings, plants, mirrors, framed prints, vases, and ornate books. Typically these objects are placed to have balanced symmetry as well. If you happen to have a variety of antiques, these are perfect accents in any room. These can provide a sense of nostalgia as well as a timeless style.

Simplicity is Key
When thinking of traditional style, simplicity should come to mind. You won’t want an overly cluttered coffee table or a loud piece of art on the walls. For window treatments, you’ll want neutral-colored curtains that are mounted up high. A rug here and there is okay, but letting your polished floors to shine is a staple of traditional style.

From the St. Jude Marathon to our St. Jude campaign, Home Furniture Plus Bedding is proud to support St. Jude in any way we can!

Give Thanks, Give Hope St. Jude Campaign
In the past, our yearly St. Jude Campaign has been there to support young children fighting a battle that they should never have to fight. Every April and May, Home Furniture Plus Bedding rallies around the cause of the children’s hospital. In 2017 they donated over $16,000 and in 2018 surpassed that number with over $21,000 in donations.

This campaign was near and dear to our hearts as it was able to support a member of the Home Furniture family. Home Furniture featured Eli and his sister, Emily, as part of their yearly St. Jude Campaign. Eli and Emily are the grandchildren of Alice Zachary, who works at the Airline location in Baton Rouge. We were so grateful to be able to help one of our own through our campaign.

St. Jude Marathon
The St. Jude Marathon in Memphis has also become close to the hearts of Home Furniture Plus Bedding employees when on December 1st, 2018, our Distribution Center Receiving Manager Drake Hulin participated in the marathon. The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is the single largest one-day fundraising event for St. Jude. The fundraising efforts of runners like Drake were able to help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food.

Tips for Clearing Clutter with Creative Storage
Tips for Clearing Clutter with Creative Storage

The first half of the year is the perfect time to organize your mind, life, and space. Every room of your house could probably use a little TLC. Beautiful and useful storage options that blend in to your décor are the perfect way to get your rooms in order while maintaining the flow of your home.

Let’s start in the living room. Toys, blankets, books, and more can easily pile up on sofas and side tables. Look to multifunctional furniture to help organize your living room. Not only do ottomans serve as a place to put your feet up and add extra seating, some also act as storage. Storage ottomans typically open from the top and offer ample place to store blankets, games, and toys.

Coffee tables are also a great place to keep things out of the way. Some slide open while others offer cabinet style doors. Side tables are also wonderful for hiding toys and books.

Get Creative and Have Fun with Furniture That is Also Functional from Home Furniture Plus Bedding

Entertainment centers can be the ultimate stylish storage space. While many serve as the perfect place for your TV, lots more offer a ton of extra space for all sorts of gadgets. Look for one with multiple display shelves and doors to keep gaming consoles and DVDs out of site.

Next, let’s tackle the kitchen. Look to storage pieces that can put your clutter neatly out of sight. Buffets and accent cabinets look great tucked away along your kitchen wall. Look for pieces with drawers for documents and cabinets for larger appliances. No need to keep your bread maker on the counter when it can be neatly tucked away.

In the bedroom, keep clothes and shoes from piling up. Kids’ bedrooms also offer unique storage challenges with sports equipment and toys thrown into the mix. For an adult’s bedroom, look to dressers, chests and even TV stands to clear the clutter. Make use of the many drawers and cabinets to keep clothes and shoes off of the bed or floor.

In children's rooms, try under-bed-storage with drawers that can fill a typically wasted space. Wardrobes are also a nice solution to bulkier items like backpacks and sports equipment.

In the game room, invest in sturdy shelves, plastic bins, and easy-to-store cloth buckets. Encourage your children to help clear the clutter every day. Make using the shelves, bins and buckets part of the daily cleaning regimen.

You can take back your spaces! With smart furniture choices from
Home Furniture Plus Bedding and a commitment to daily organization your house will stay in order year-round.

Using Gray for Your Neutral Home Style Base
Using Gray for Your Neutral Home Style Base

When styling your home, it’s often helpful to start with a base. One of our favorite furniture style ideas is to start with gray. Gray is the perfect base for both warm and cool color pallets. There are several benefits to utilizing gray furniture besides its neutral tone. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite aspects of this color and how it can enhance your home.

Living Room Pieces
Your living room is typically where you, as well as any guests, spend the most time in your home. It’s also the space where you will probably want to update and change most frequently. However, it’s not always feasible to go out and buy seasonal furniture pieces. We suggest purchasing a gray sofa set that will match every season.

Dining Options
Gray is a wonderful option when it comes to finding the right color for your dining pieces. It easily complements a farmhouse or modern style with several options for color and material variety.

Bedroom Sets
Starting with a neutral base in the bedroom allows for endless possibilities in décor. These gray bedroom sets act as a blank canvas for colorful comforters, accent pillows, or even art pieces you may not have imagined before.

Accent Pieces
A gray cabinet can serve as a great piece for a bar area or as extra storage in your home office. A gray bookcase can showcase family photos in your living room or shelve all of your children’s books in their bedrooms. Adding a gray accent chair in the living room, home office, or in the master bedroom can add an extra element of comfort to any of these rooms. Pair it with a colorful throw pillow or blanket and you’re good to go.

Tips for Choosing an Impressive Dining Room Set
Tips for Choosing an Impressive Dining Room Set

There are many factors involved with choosing a dining room table, and sometimes the size you need isn’t an obvious choice. For instance, are you someone who loves to entertain, but feel that having a large dining room table wouldn’t be practical for your everyday life? Do you have a small dining area that you want to make the most of for everyday use and the occasional guest?
Whether you have a large dining room or limited space, Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana is here with some tips for choosing an impressive dining room set.

Perfect Fit
There are a couple of factors you should consider before determining the ideal dining room table size and shape for your space. First, consider how many people you would like to regularly seat around the table. When trying to determine how many people will need to fit around your table, look at your daily routine.

Rectangular tables and extension tables are a great choice for narrow or long rooms. Round or square tables work best in smaller or square rooms. A basic rule of thumb for figuring out which size table will best fit your space is to make sure that the edge of the table has at least three feet of space between it and the wall or other obstruction. This will allow you and your guests to easily move and sit down around your table.

The great thing about extension tables is that you can add one or more leaves depending on the table and your needs. If you are having the in-laws over for dinner and only need a couple more place settings, simply insert one leaf.

Tips for Choosing the Right Upholstery for Your Lifestyle
Tips for Choosing the Right Upholstery for Your Lifestyle

One of the main decisions you need to make when it’s time to buy new furniture is which type of upholstery would work best for your household. Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana is here with a few tips on how to make sure you get the right upholstery for your taste and lifestyle!

Durability
If you live in a household that has small children and/or pets, you will likely want to choose upholstery that has a higher level of durability. Some fabrics on the market today are actually technologically designed to withstand stains and damage and allow for easy cleaning! Kid and pet-proof fabrics allow you to get the furniture you want without the headache of trying to get stains out.

Quality leather that has a stain-resistant finish is also a good choice if you are looking for a durable, stain-resistant cover that’s made to last, but it does need to be properly maintained.

When it comes to fade resistance, the need depends on where your furniture will be placed. If your furniture is going to be in your sunroom next to a window, or in a room that has a high amount of natural light, you’ll want to look into getting fabrics that will resist fading.

If you struggle with allergies, you can get upholstery that will resist the accumulation of dust and other allergens which also lengthens the lifespan of the product.

Style
Your furniture’s upholstery should complement the style and character of the piece itself along with its surroundings. For example, traditional style upholstery often works best on a traditional frame in a traditional setting.

Define Your Style of Upholstery at Home Furniture Plus Bedding Serving East Texas and Louisiana
The look and feel of your upholstery will also greatly affect the overall feel of the room you place it in. Some fabrics appear more casual, and others appear more formal. Choose one that reflects both your style and the mood of the room! If you’re ready to find the upholstery that matches your style today, visit one of our eight locations across East Texas and Louisiana today!

These little treasures show off your personality and can also serve as a convenient place for fun office supplies. If you don’t know which items may go together, our showrooms have plenty of spaces setup for your reference.

Accent Lamps
Being under fluorescent lighting for eight or more hours at a time can make the day seem to go on forever. An accent lamp can do wonders for when you have to type up a strategic brief or have to eat lunch at your desk. When there’s no windows in your office, a little soft light can do wonders for your mood.

Rugs
Adding a small rug to your office can serve many purposes. Adding some color to your brown carpeted cubicle can brighten your space and show off your personality. If you work in an office where you can hear a pin drop, a small rug will help absorb the noise.

Designing A Majestic Master Bedroom
Designing A Majestic Master Bedroom

When you wind down at the end of a hard day and are ready to lay your head down, it’s nice to have an oasis of comfort that also matches your overall style. It’s easy to furnish the community spaces and ensure the kiddos have a perfect place to lay their heads, but creating a retreat space that’s just for you makes the perfect getaway right in your own home. Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving Louisiana and East Texas has some ideas to help you design a majestic master bedroom.

Add A Mirror to Your Master Bedroom
Mirrors are an excellent way to bounce light around the room and a way to make it feel more spacious. You can add a full-length mirror in the corner that’s perfect for that last outfit look before heading to work.

 Symmetry For the Master Bedroom
The easiest way to achieve a symmetrical look is to buy a bedroom set. Whether that’s just matching nightstands or even a 5-piece set, having items in the room that all go with one another will give your master area the grown-up and stylish feel that fits you best.

Add Accessories to Your Master Bedroom
Adding a few accessories like throw pillows add that simple touch of style to make the room homey and inviting. Accessories such as lamps can add a little pop of color during the day and add ample reading light when winding down before bed. Curtains tie the room together and can be a neutral point or pop of color depending on your aesthetic choices.

 Master Bedroom Storage
You don’t want your room to be overwhelmed with giant pieces throughout, so it’s important to make the best use of storage. For your everyday clothes, we suggest a nice dresser that will keep you organized and keep your clothes out of sight. For storing your knick-knacks, chargers, books, and other small items, look for a matching nightstand set. This gives you easy bedside access without having too much clutter. For displaying pictures, mementos, or decorative accents, we’d add a bookshelf to the corner. This way not too much space is taken up, but you have a versatile piece to place your appealing belongings. Colors to Consider When Buying Furniture
Colors to Consider When Buying Furniture

When making a furniture purchase, there are many things to consider. Comfort, size, storage, use, and most of all, color. Furniture pieces are often the center of any room, and they make a statement. Whether that’s neutral, patterned, bright, dark, or any combination of these, you want to ensure that your furniture works for your overall style and aesthetic. Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving Louisiana and East Texas is here with a few tips on colors to consider when buying furniture.

Consider Lighting Colors

Lighting is one of the number-one things to consider before making a furniture purchase. How a piece looks online or even in the store could be very different depending on the lighting of the room. If you choose a dark piece that’s well-lit on the store floor, but the room in your home has one overhead light, don’t expect the piece to have the same look. If the room you’re working with has a lot of natural light all day, you can play with more bright colors. If you choose a dark piece, you don’t have to worry about bringing down the mood of the entire space.

Decorate from Dark to Light Vertically

Keep in mind when buying a piece that in order to keep your room looking large and spacious, you’ll want to use darker colors closer to the floor. Your space should replicate the outside world. Keep this in mind when buying your large statement pieces so you can accent or even paint properly.

Grays for Days

Gray-colored furniture is a great option when wanting a neutral place to start. Gray works for any style making it the perfect chameleon for pairing with bold patterns and bright accents. It compliments both warm and cool color palates, so you won’t have to worry about it being a seasonal piece.

60-30-10 Rule

When it comes to decorating a space, many people implement the 60-30-10 rule. 60% of your décor should be a dominant color, like your walls. 30% of the room is your secondary color and includes things like upholstery. The last 10% represents your accent color for accessories, throws, and other miscellaneous items. This creates a sense of balance without being boring nor boisterous with your décor.

Get Your Home Ready For Winter Movie
Get Your Home Ready For Winter Movie

It’s time to get cozy and turn on the TV. Christmas movies are on 24/7, and your family could enjoy some quality time together bingeing on holiday goodness. If your living room is a little sparse or not set up for movie watching, Home Furniture Plus Bedding serving East Texas and Louisiana is here with a few things to keep in mind as you get your home ready for a winter movie marathon.

Sofa Seating

Sectional sofas are the perfect pieces of furniture to ensure a good view of the screen and a comfy place to settle in.

• Chaise Sectionals: A chaise sectional usually has three cushions, with the third being elongated into a chaise: perfect for watching Frosty the Snowman.

• L-Shaped Sectionals: These sectionals usually have five cushions: two on one side of the L, two on the other side, and then one connecting the L shape. It adds a second sofa to your space. Nice for all piling together to watch the Grinch!

• U-Shaped Sectionals: U-shaped sectionals typically have a center with two sections extending from either side. They provide the same sitting space as two sofas and a love seat: perfect for the premiere party for your favorite Hallmark movie.

• Reclining Sectionals: Not only is every seat comfy, but they also recline. These sectionals are perfect for watching Elf, where everyone needs to settle in nicely for a good laugh.

Recliner Seating

Recliners are also a great way to add style to your movie-watching space. They take up less space than a sectional and function better than a traditional sofa for this type of space. For a member of your family with mobility problems, check out the power recliners. There are also plush options for an extra comfy feel or sleek options that will take up less space.

Fireplaces

Some fireplaces add old-world charm, contemporary convenience, or farmhouse flair. Imagine the way firelight will look around the holidays! It will add charm and ambiance to any winter movie marathon.
